Conference history

The International Scientific and Technical Conference “Energy Efficiency in Transport” (EET) is held at the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport (UkrSURT) for the first time in 2020. The purpose of initiating this conference was to unite the efforts of Ukrainian and foreign researchers, leading transport enterprises and other industries to address the most critical issues of today: improving energy efficiency of transport and all related technological processes; energy conservation and controlling rational use of energy on vehicles and transport infrastructure facilities; use of promising sources of energy in transport etc.

The relevance of the conference is accounted for the global trends of modern energy policy, which is based on the understanding of the finiteness of traditional fuel and energy resources, the need to preserve the environment and prevent global climate change.Therefore, so much attention is paid to energy conservation, energy efficiency and expansion of renewable energy in all parts of the world.

The objectives of the EET-2020 Conference are:

  • discussing urgent issues of improving the energy efficiency of the Ukrainian transport sector, sharing ideas of innovative solutions in the field of energy and resource conservation in rolling stock and transport infrastructure facilities, identifying the first lines problems to be solved in this area of science;
  • drawing attention to the problems of rational and efficient use of energy and energy sources in the transport industry and developing a roadmap of future joint actions of science, industry and business in this field;
  • establishing new and consolidating the existing ties among the participants of the conference;
  • forming scientific teams for the effective implementation of ideas and projects related to energy efficiency in the transport sector;
  • creating conditions for effective interaction between education, science, industry and business in the field of energy conservation and energy efficiency in transport;
  • providing opportunities for the renewal of scientific staff by actively involving young researchers, postgraduate students and undergraduates in addressing energy efficiency issues in the transport industry.

The idea of holding such a conference, which is important for the whole industry of both Ukraine and the world, has become feasible due to the extensive experience of the University in holding international conferences. In recent years, UkrSURT has organized such conferences as:

  • International Science and Technology Conference “Problems of reliability and durability of engineering structures and buildings in railway transport” (Transbud) was held in November 2019 for the eighth time and has become a tradition for scientists and industrialists from the rail transport;
  • International Scientific and Technical Conference “Transport technologies and Infrastructure”(May 14-16, 2018);
  • International Scientific and Technical Conference of scientists and specialists of transport of Ukraine and the world“ Development of scientific and innovative activity in transport” which in 2018 was held for the 80th time;
  • “New technologies, equipment, materials in construction and transport.” International Scientific and Technical Conference on the 80th Anniversary of the Department of Construction, Track and Load Handling Machines (November 2014);
  • Industrial Hydraulics and Pneumatics. XVII International Scientific and Technical Conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Association of Specialists in Industrial Hydraulics and Pneumatics, as well as the 85th anniversary of the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport (October 19-21, 2016);
  • International Scientific and Technical Conference “Intellectual Transport Technologies“ (January 24-30 2020).

In addition, scientists of the University have been involved in national and international scientific events dedicated to the topic covered by the EET conference, in particular in projects implemented by domestic and international organizations:

  • the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with support from the Global Environment Facility;
  • Ministry of Economic, Trade and Agricultural Development of Ukraine;
  • State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation of Ukraine;
  • Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre;
  • Energy Efficiency Fund (for training of energy auditors);
  • “Ukrainian Railways” Joint Stock Company”.

The specialists of the University, as representatives of the intellectual basis of the Ukrainian energy complex, keep abreast of events in the field of energy efficiency, and take an active part in:

  • creation of legal and regulatory support for the adaptation of national legislation to implementation of national standards in accordance with ISO 50001 "Energy Management System";
  • increase of national capabilities for implementation of standards of energy management systems in industry, certification of created systems;
  • expansion of energy efficient technologies and market-based tools to stimulate the use of energy management systems in selected sectors of industry.

The experience of the scientists of the University and partners of the EET-2020 conference will be implemented in the work of its separate sections:

  1. Energy efficiency of rolling stock and transportation;
  2. Energy management of rolling stock and structures of transport infrastructure;
  3. Resource and energy savings in transport.

The relevance of the conference is accounted for the global trends of modern energy policy, which is based on the understanding of the finiteness of traditional fuel and energy resources, the need to preserve the environment and prevent global climate change. Therefore, so much attention is paid to energy conservation, energy efficiency and expansion of renewable energy in all parts of the world.
